Four miles from home, Hatteras Island. Was from earlier in the week, today we are just getting rain, it's 42 F.

do you know anything about the trail that connects NC and Va through sandbridge? some people I work tell me you can go through the trail and take it all the way from sandbridge out to north Carolina even though the park says you cant they don't really care apparently

Yes, that begins at Back Bay Wildlife Refuge (just past Sandbridge). It is gated entry and costs $2. Back Bay turns into False Cape State Park, which continues to the NC line. Passage takes about 3 hours by the only form of transportation allowed, bicycle.
Used to be able to drive the beach from Sandbridge to NC but now only a few old timers are still allowed to do it.
There is no practical way to sneak a vehicle back there, especially considering it is a State Park and Wildlife Refuge. Have to drive around, the NC route.

Gate to the beach is padlocked, there are no attendants, and there is no way around the gate.
Suffolk area would be your best bet for closeby 'trails'.

Are you available Sundays or Mondays, all day, to go wheeling in Carova/Swan Beach?

Need to check with 757 Jeepers and schedule a meet. I just got to get my bump stops in order and longer shocks. I'd love to come down there before summer hits.

Group ride? That limits the fun factor and where we can go. The 'ridge trail' can only have 2 jeeps at a time on it. And due to its tricky nature, getting stuck can be trouble, and if you overshoot a turn and slip off the ridge, there is no getting back on, will have to bushwhack your way to the bottom.
Also, scratches are almost guaranteed..
I could take an additional 2 jeeps along at most.. GPS devises not permitted, have to find these trails the old fashion way..
