Isn't the Blue Ridge Parkway wonderful! 45 mph and no commercial vehicles. Fun on a bicycle too, must have hit 50mph.
A great drive for us tourists, and the local farmers thought it would be great too since they were the poorest in the country. But then it was built and the locals were not allowed to use the Parkway to get to market.
How the land was acquired is another story.

Anyway, there is a similar scenic road that heads north where the Blue Ridge ends at Afton Mountain. Skyline Drive.
