Looks like I'll will be doing gears in "Tirpitz" this weekend (gear kits should be here tomorrow), anyone want to stop by? Plan is to have the front axle out as I'm welding in a truss but not sure about the rear, should have the welding done friday night & start the gear change saturday morning. Have a Miller 211 if someone needs something welded up. Located near I40 & Old Mountain rd. Statesville, NC

Yea thanks, pulled the front axle out Thursday night. Started to weld in a truss last night (took one off a D30 JK axle i had laying around) finishing up this morning. Starting on gear changes after lunch.

Added some bracing to ps tombstone, axle trackbar/ss mount. The truss I cut out of a JK D30 housing I had laying around.

Yes didn't turn out to bad. Took some time to cut off that JK axle, wish I had a plasma cutter instead of cutoff wheels & sawsall, just had to trim & shorten it to fit.

Well so far so good, have about 175 miles on the gears and everything seems to be good, no real noises from the gears. Slight driveline vibs (still has the stock rear slip yoke, I know I know it's on the list) and slight rubbing noise from either the rear drums (rear brakes needed an adjustment bad) or the front brake shield (only happens while turning/side loading tires). I ordered a new set of 4 hole injectors today should be here on Saturday. Also found a complete set of seats out of a 98 ZJ for $60 so going to pick them up sat also and get rid of those worn out stock seats. Yes I have something to work on this weekend

The ZJ seats are great. Are you going to install the rear split seats also? The fronts are direct fit but the back requires some modification. I have only done the front seats.

Yes going to use some variation of the rears. I have the current rears out as I made a sleeping platform on the pass side w/a small safe.



A hinged piece of plywood (w/carpet) goes on top. I'm just not sure which half of the ZJ rears I'll end up using.

So did a little work over the last day & 1/2. Installed 4 hole Bosch injectors, retightened the converter bolts & installed a pr of front ZJ seats.



Tomorrow install front brake rotors/pads, flush brake fluid, change out gear lube from gear break in & retorque front end bolts from having the complete axle out. Then gotta pack for the trip north on Tuesday.
