Flat tab is a 8.25, great rear axle.
Rounded bottom is a Dana 35, not so great axle.

What rear axle? Does it have a flat tab on the bottom of the differential?
Yes, flat tab.

I'm coming to the realization that this build will only see some light off-road action. There may be some technical terrain in the mix. How capable is a 3" lift on 31's?

Light usage or heavy usage, mild lift or tall lift, either way it's a Jeep. Enjoy what you have. Welcome back by the way.

If the builder thought it would be funny to put "69" on it. I don't trust them to do good work.

Besides, I'm a stickler. The Wrangler should be a '92 Sahara, and the SUV was an Explorer

I've met him a few times. He's a weird dude. But I would trust his mechanical skills. That lotus elise in the background is his. He bought the XJ that way, and i remember him having a TJ before but i think he got it painted like that, but i'm not sure.

I almost bought one a while back, but the windshield frame is perfectly at eye level, and I couldn't see a damn thing

Maybe he chose that number in case it rolls, so you can still read the number easily.

I'm kind of digging it, but it hurts my brain to look at
