Longer springs than the Xj, more arch than the Xj for load carrying capacity, to control axle wrap and also it keeps the height down due to the springs being mounted under the frame rail instead of beside it like the Xj.

Ah. That makes sense. One more question and I'll let you sleep.
Are the spring perches the same width as the ones for a Ford 8.8 out of an Explorer, or would they still need to be cut off and replaced.

I'm asking, because I have an 8.8 that my friend wants for his Commanche, but I have no clue what to tell him.

It can be done but is he trying to do a spring over axle or keep it spring under ???

Well, he's got a couple different welders, and a lot of time to decide.
Me, I'd say go with what the designers did. It works. However, he's just 21 years old, and has automotive ADD.

But I will show him the write up, and see if he can make up his mind.
