Don't start freaking out yet.

See about reconnecting the shift linkage, and test out the txfr case.

Drop the oil pan and you get a great view of all 6 connecting rods.
Check 'em out that way to see if you need to repair anything.
If you're adventurous, you can do the repair without removing the engine.

I did it once on a friends 4.9 F150. It wasn't easy, but it WAS doable.
That's the route I was going to take. Was gonna get at everything I can with the oil pan off. Looks like I can get it all taken care of for about 400 in parts and a lot of cussing.

Interesting thing though. They always say to go cylinder to cylinder unhooking the fuel injector to hunt down which cylinder the knock is coming from. I did that but instead of one of they cylinders being unhooked causing it to go away....it just got worse no matter which cylinder i took out.

Also its running really rich so that black mess all over my garage floor smells like gas made black by carbon in the exhaust. No biggie.

Any of you guys been to the upullandpay down here? Think I'm gonna take a trip out there saturday or sunday. Might be worth it to throw a lower mileage used engine in this thing instead of rebuilding the bottom end.

Good morning. I have my D44 and a spare but good deal. Majority of them had LSDs in them.

Yes, I go there all the time. There's also a LKQ next door and another up off Dyer rd. So we have three junkyards to choose from. The U Pull n Pay usually charges 250 for a used engine plus they give you like 75 bucks back when you bring the old one in for core/scrap.

Howdy fellow XJ freaks. How's it going? Been a while since I have posted but I have been stalking in the background. Living in 32948 and working in FTL still but not down on the weekends to play with the gang.

Hope everyone is doing good. We need to set up a little get together one night during the week so we can hang out.

I actually found a motor in ft lauderdale at a yard with 83K miles certified running for $600 bucks. As long as they offer a 30 day warranty on the motor I'm gonna go pick it up saturday morning and swap it in this weekend.

Looks like I'm going to have to buy an engine hoist.

Or that. Didn't know where I was going to rent one down here. I've never had to rent one before. Always had access to one until I finally bought one a few years ago. It's sitting in my dads shed in the carolinas though.

Let me check my shop, think I have a spare one back there.
