Ocala Trails
#17
You guys found your Ocala trail guide. I grew up in Salt Springs FL. Thats right in the middle of the Ocala National forest. I know every road and trail out there. Let me know if you have any questions.

Well everyone talks about planning stuff but no one comes through. I dont know the area so I dont want to be the one saying what to do. Someone take charge and plan an ocala trip/meet type thing.

Me and a buddy of mine stay in one of the cabins
on the Alexander springs river, anyone ever been in that area
we go up from Orlando on the weeks ends every so often
I dont know the trails that well yet, but my buddy mike
well... he grew up in the forest, he knows the trails like the back
of his hand.

No, I don't lick fish.
So, how did the trip go... if there was one, and where did you go to print off the vehicle use map... I work in dispatch, but I don't think we even have that map.

i have the map on my computer, but never use it. when i do go to Ocala (rarely) i just go exploring. i did find this one place, an open area with some good stuff.
directions: if you take state road 40 west make a right on Forest Road 88 (paved) (same road the gun range is off of) take that road north, you'll see a lot of dirt roads to your left and right intersecting with FR 88, and they are numbered. about 5 miles up turn left on FR 46 (sand road), a little over a mile there is an opening with sandy hills, and trenches to wheel in (don't know how to explain) but its fun and better than the trails.
the trails I've been down aren't maintained and it hard to fit your vehicle through without scratching it up.
here's where you can find the map: http://www.fs.usda.gov/wps/portal/fsinternet/!ut/p/c5/04_SB8K8xLLM9MSSzPy8xBz9CP0os3gjAwhwtDDw9_AI8zPwhQ oY6IeDdGCqCPOBqwDLG-AAjgb6fh75uan6BdnZaY6OiooA1tkqlQ!!/dl3/d3/L2dJQSEvUUt3QS9ZQnZ3LzZfMjAwMDAwMDBBODBPSEhWTjJNMD AwMDAwMDA!/?navtype=BROWSEBYSUBJECT&cid=fsbdev3_008616&navid= 091000000000000&pnavid=null&ss=110816&position=Wel come.Html&ttype=detail&pname=Ocala%20National%20Fo rest-%20Home/recreation/ohv.overview.php

yea, if you have ATs you should be fine. i once took an s10 truck 2wd with street tires on some trails, and did get stuck a few times, but made it out ok. there are parts that the sand is really thick and thats when you need the 4x4.

my WJ is stock and it has all-season street tires, never got stuck.
apparently there are designated trails for OHV in the northern part of Ocala NF, i never been there, but there's a map that shows them....http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_...rdb5192654.pdf

Awww man... wish I would have known that... me and my brother and a friend of ours went out there today... my brother has a cj7 on 33s and our buddy has a RAM on 38s... my 2wd Cherokee made through anything that it had the ground clearance to get over... which was surprisingly quite a bit... mud, sand, didn't matter... as long as the pumpkin didn't get hung up on something solid, I was fine... send me a pm next time your goin... I work the rest of the weekend.
Oh yeah, I did get stuck one time, but It's only cause I underestimated the depth of this puddle.
