Default I Love My 96 Jeep Cherokee Sport

Hi!

I saw your Jeep post and have overheating problem. Even though you are in OK (I used to live there for a short time), I'd like to know what your overheating problem was and how you fixed it.Would like as much feedback as I can get in better determining my Jeep overheating problem and the steps to take to repair it. I would like to avoid unecessary waste of time and $$$ I have already dealt with.Have ruled out certain things. In these times especially, everyone in business is crazy desperate to stay afloat. Especially in auto repair with more than usual demand to make buckets of money in profit. Several repair places have really seen me coming and I paid dearly for that. More recently after re-educating myself about my Jeep, repair places have thought I didn't know better about how they loaded my bill with unecessary items and labor time- and all because I'm female I could write a book about that with a chapter on how I've been hornswaggled

In all fairness,I know that men get taken advantage of too bysome repair shops. I realize everyone has to earn a living but I just got tired of worrying about all the scams and thought I'd find mechanically oriented people who love Jeep's like I do, and who are willing to tell me the truth about repairs I need. I know it's difficult when you can't see or drive my Jeep but I'll do the best I can to describe what's going on.

Thanks!

first off lets start with the small steps i took and then if u see or notice something u have not tried or not too sure of just ask and will do best to help out.small things and steps were my thermostat which was only about 9.00 with gasket and sealant.keep in mind that most of the time on older veh. when u replace a part something else always goes wrong, well atleast to me anyway.i then replaced my water pump the tiny seep hole at bottom began leaking.i did have to replace my aux.fan small fan on driverside usually kicks on when u run a/c. i also flushed radiator easier to do yourself in driveway than go to work and have a shop do it and charge u 120 just remove grill look on passenger side of radiator unscrew drain plug i did run water through to flush out any excess dirt in there.i just finished replacing my clutch fan which is big fan located on pass. side used to cool radiator.

keep in mind i have eliminated alot of the problems and each time i have gotten better results a/c blows cooler and engine stays cooler for longer distances.now there are two things left that i can think of that will solve our problem.i am going to replace my lowere and upper radiator hoses, and hope that fixes this problem completely.if not then the only other thing i can think of is purchasing a new radiator, although i have no visible leaks anywhere.now if you would like to fill me in on what you have replaced and checked i will get back to you.my stepdad owns a shop and is a certified mechanic so that is who i go to and so far things have been getting better for my jeep.

One other thing to look at at least on my 91 was the heater control valve. I replaced mine and when I remove the heater hose it pretty much fell a part. It basically has 3 hoses going to it, the heater hose coming from the sport on top of the t-stat housing and then the 2 from the heater core. I need to replace my t-stat and flush the radiator.

Oh and I am in OKC area but I do hunt down your way. I have a buddy that lives in Medicine Park and I got down there to hunt the quackers, dove and sometimes deer.

Where do you hunt down there? I live in OKC also and hunt in Chickasaw. My brother and I are looking for a place to hunt quackers this year.
