Good looking XJ!
I'm here too...just been working on servicing my XJ and combating some neglect from the previous owner.
capnjack, I'm curious what you paid for your XJ? I just picked mine up about 6 weeks ago for $1,600 in driveable shape, but needing some TLC.

Sounds like you got a bit of a better deal than I, and it looks like its stick. I paid 3, but interior (gotta love that 80's charm) and frame are in excellent condition and totally rust free which is what I was looking for. Brand new tires too, that might just be me justifying it though
I have a 93 YJ in Chicago that the frame was completely rusted through and needed to be replaced. So I have a phobia of rust for sure. Eventual plan will be full drivetrain swap for the XJ, but that is definitely down the road.
I have been DDing it 25 miles or so a day for the almost month with no problems. The engine is fine just a squeaky belt. It does need a sway bar and an SYE though.
Regretfully I have never been wheeling, but would like to soon.

Are you on a 4" lift with 31's? It looks a little taller than 4"...
The reason I asked about the price you paid, is that I want to make sure I'm not pouring good money after bad and that my money will likely be returned if I sell it down the road. At this point I feel good putting another $1k into getting the rust under control and replacing the parts it needs: A couple quarts of OSP-15, a few hours with the angle grinder, new OME leaf springs, new brakes, new exhaust, and bed-line the interior.
Right now, including a new Rough Country front bumper, my Amazon cart is sitting at $1,500. - Just waiting to hear back from ARB to verify the Part # for the OME leaf springs.
