Thanks for the good word. Just joined & signed up for this weekend's fall color run. Anyone else headed in that direction? We can meet up and caravan down.

Good call about Midwest Jeepthing. I'd like to meet some cool people to go wheeling with. My XJ is my daily driver, so I can't beat it up too bad, but I'd still like to take it on trails and such. My schedule is opening up, so I'll actually be able to take trips on the weekends now.

Trimming, folding, hammering, riveting done! Started spraying undercoating last night, including under the quarters and along wheel well edges. I went a little crazy on the fronts, but I had a reason......goodbye rust! It was bubbling bad with a small hole right where the right fender touched the bumper end-cap. Not the prettiest beast, but if I were going for pretty, I wouldn't be in this hobby!

Snapped this before I started spraying undercoating last night. (don't laugh at my sleeper grandpa truck in the garage!)

I've got a locker on the way and need to regear my front to match the back.. until then, no 4wd for me. After that I'll be looking into joining MJT for their runs to SMORR or other events..

Being rookies to this, we're hitting the easy trails with the stockers & mild DD's. Might step up a little, but nothing crazy. We're running stock gears & no lockers yet.

It was an awesome time! Everyone was super nice & helpful. We initially lined up with the Easy group, but then this smaller Moderate group who formed up off to the side asked if we wanted to run with them. They took us to the 101 obstacles to show us the ropes, then we gradually worked up in difficulty through the day. I had no idea our XJ was that capable at this stage of the build!!! Rock sliders are next on the list.

The transfer case shifter linkage was a pain all day, so I'll be tearing into that this week. (Could use a hand if your or anyone else has done it before.) I had to hold the shifter up with my right hand whenever we came into rough stuff. No joke, my right arm is still sore!

We're doing the MWJT members only run on the 8th in Wright City.

Here's my thread that has pics: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f37/pi...7/#post2961279

Just joined Midwest Jeep Thing. Looking forward to the next run. Can't wait to take the Jeep on some trails.

I'm planning on it. I sent them payment for membership and joined the forum. Is it a good idea to go to the meeting on the 4th to get more info?

It wouldn't hurt. I'm going to try making it, but not 100% certain yet. Even if you can't make it, I'm certain the group will take great care of you on the 8th. They really take the time to make sure newbies are welcomed in, and quickly get a read on your rig & wheeling experience so they know who you should run with.

If your first event with MWJT goes anything like ours, you'll find these people are genuinely good folks who love the hobby & making like-minded friends, regardless of how off-road savvy you are.

They're actually pretty darn quiet on the street, and so far grip well in loose dirt and gravel. They'll get a real off road test very soon.
