Default Denver People! Emissions question

Trying to get my XJ smogged in the next few days but I'm unsure if they'll test it as the muffler currently exits just before the rear axle.

Is it required to exit the side or the rear or will they test it as is?

Thanks
-Nick

Yes. You have to port behind the "Passenger Cabin" to pass emissions.

You can always drive to Colorado DMV in a county which does not require emissions and you can register without one.

Yep figured that out yesterday when they wouldn't test it. It's getting a tailpipe welded on today and fingers crossed it passes.

Regarding registering in another county, don't you need to have a residence to register a vehicle to?

You can register in a different county from the one you reside but if the authorities notice you'll have to re-register and pay emissions anyway. They're on the lookout for people trying to bypass emissions.

if your sticker is up to date, it keeps you from getting pulled over.

If you dont get pulled over, you dont get pulled over.

If you are fixing it, get it fixed, and if either of the first happen, just go get it done after its fixed.

I recommend it to buy time, not solve the problem.

I had it all welded up out the back of the truck today. Going back tomorrow. Fingers crossed it passes. No CEL or issues to speak of but the CAT is unknown age and condition I really don't have the coin for a new cat or other related repairs right now.

Passed!!! Quite well actually, think the engine is healthier than I had originally thought. Pretty stoked about it.

Emissions are not that tough in CO as long as you meet the basic requirements like the no service light, it would take a serious problem to fail here.
