When they say closed I should know better. Even on Walker road there was about 16" of snow in some places, I had to cross the stream by Hassayampa lake and jump up on a 6" ice ledge to get out of the water. I came back on Forest trail 261 I think, past the trail for the Mount Union summit, and I couldn't believe they call that a road, Poland Road the sign said. Big time rocks, I had to back up a couple of times to check out my path, there's some real big drops off the back side of boulders that are tough to see going down hill. By far the toughest trail I've been up or down so far. Jeep did fine, I get nervous when we push snow and the front wheels drift to the outside edge, it's a long way down if you slip over. A touch of throttle pulls it back from the edge but I really didn't want to go any faster. A nice slow drive when it's dry would be a fun run. Any where I can see how trails like that are rated?

If you don't mind shelling out about $40.00 go to one of the 4wheel Parts stores and get the book Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails. It lists 100 0f the trails in the State of Arizona by difficulty and is a pretty good way to familiarize yourself with the trails in the state.

You have to be on the east side of the I 19, since there is only the landscape place and an empty lot on the west side.

I am a half mile to the west of the pioneer landscaping. That's my wheeling spot. There's a huge pond and a bunch of hills back there.

Got that, actually from Amazon for cheap. We're going to start doing some trails from the book, and compare them to what we've done so far. There's got to be 1000+ miles of trails within 30 miles of us, some we found are really steep and off camber, lots of rocks and cliff edge driving. I'll be interested to see what the book calls moderate and difficult. The last mile or 2 of blue bell road from Cleator to the mine were bad enough to take the fun out of it. Shouldn't be doing stuff like that alone in a family truckster with 190 thousand on it......But it does it. Lockers rock.

The old San Xavier Rock & Materials gravel pit. I worked there 13 years ago.

Yes sir. But there's 4 springs in the deepest pits that constantly fill up the holes and they're pretty full of water. I live to the west of that quarry
