so the starter swap turned into a little project. the bolts were much tighter than 35 ft-lbs, and kinda looked like **** when i got them out. when i went to reinstall the new starter they started to bind up a bit when i was tightening them. so i'm going to hit up mcfadden-dale this week and buy new ones, and maybe chase the threads in the block with a tap to clean them out.
since i gave up on swapping the starter last night, i made the other positive battery cables and soldered on a new end to the starter solenoid wire with a ring terminal on it, removing the convenience block thingy.
the best part is those fancy brass terminals i bought for the battery, yeah...i bought two negative ones.
so far my XJ experience has been a pita, but its going to be better/stronger than it was when i bought it.

If you want to save a few dollars, I have a starter I pulled off of mine that worked just fine, shoot me a PM, you are just down the road.

Update! Replaced the starter with the one I got from Autozone. Same problem.
I watched the bleepinjeep.com video about the NSS, and started fiddling with mine. I was able to adjust it enough that it sometimes fires up in Park, and fires up in Neutral. I guess I should have started here, heh.
All else fails, I can start it by turning the key to on and jumping the starter B+ and starter relay wires with a screwdriver.
NSS is coming off in the next few days to be cleaned and re-lubed, hopefully I can avoid totally replacing it.

I know the feels on the merging, traded a 13' 5.0 mustang for a 14' JKUR and it is definitely different. My wife thinks the XJ with 3.55s and 33s has more powah then the 4.10s and 32s on the rubi.

Its kinda nice having the lifted XJ and the lowered Neon, total opposite ends of the spectrum.
side note, what's a good operating temp? I've been hovering anywhere between just below 210 to just above, depending on if I'm in stop and go or on the highway.
