i did get a ticket in shoreline. in the end after goin to court it was 189.00 dollars. thing is there is a fair weather law paved raod, less than 30 mph on a clear day flares r not required but the cop and the judge didnt care. i showed proof of that n they just looked the other way. the cop was a dhead he was going in the opposit direction whip it around in traffic and followed me for about a mile, pulled me over and said my tires were illegal i said what my tires and he stammerd you got no flaps or flares i knew is was needn them but also thought i was ok due to the weather conditions, i had staters follow me on 90 and on other hiways n they didnt even care i dont think anyway. so ur flaps have to hang to the center point of the rear axel tires can not pass flares more than a inch. i see trucks all over with no flaps and massive tires all the time

Now I have to say that is kind of funny. Was it one of them lift up cars with like 24" wheels? Or one of them ones that is lowered with the wheels sticking out 6" looking like it is smashed spider or something? Lol

I got pulled over once and got a warning for no flares and my exhaust but only that once. My tires stuck out a good 3" too. Dude was nice. And that was in Bonney Lake where they are ******** about exhaust, lifted stuff etc. In your case i bet the cop was probably bored and wanted to hear his car make the weeohh weeohh sound.

Not sure if you can apply this...
Finally my degree in political science is useful!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibb_v._Navajo_Freight_Lines,_Inc.
While this was brought by a commercial interest, it could be argued that any vehicle traveling on an INTERstate would be subject to federal not individual state laws, especially those that have requirements that are different than a neighboring state. It could easily be argued that if you travel for work to another state, like ever, this law is unconstitutional because it would require you to change equipment every time you cross a state line. That is the pervue of the federal government to make stupid laws like that, not states. The feds hate it when states horn in on their monopoly of stupid.
I know it's an old thread, but maybe this will help?

Great info here.
Just a heads up to all my WA state xj heads. My wife waspulled over in seattle by a stae trooper on xmas eve morning a block from our house ...for no mudflaps or fenders (6.5"lift, semi cut fenders, stock fenders removed, and 33"X12.5 tire). There is a State trooper office around the corner and it was right before a on ramp to the I-5 so that explains why the trooper did it in the city.
Fast forward to last weekend, driving on I-5in the carpool lane, a trooper was sitting in one of those police U turn only places on the freeway, and as soon as we went by, the pulled out and then pulled us over. She was a nicer trooper, gave us a print out on the WA state laws regarding mudflaps and fenders, and we went on our way.
Neither time resulted in a ticket, but it seems like they are on the look for lifted jeeps running with out mudflaps.... which is like 95% of us.
Just a heads up. I'm probably going to fold and just buy a pair to keep my wife from getting pulled over, as it pisses her off A LOT! suggestions on mud flaps?

I picked up a $210 for no splash guards/ mudflaps from the police chief in kenmore. First thing he said was he hates people like me with 4x4 rigs lol. he must have had a lot of rocks bounce off his windshield.
