riderjays thread and photos
decided to post in here sense i live in tacoma wa
recently sold my quad and got a 97 2 door xj
will post questions and photos and random pics from me
previous owner new nothing about this jeep
it has hack n tap, aftermarket rear drive line maybe?
open diffs rear 8.25, with not stock output shaft maybe,
tera flex short arms,a heimed hd trackbar rough county maybe?
jks sway bar links and 33 by 10.50 km2 tires,
first i tried the sway bar unhooked , and got stuck because the tire hit the front inner and outer fender, needs more lift or something to limit.
will adjusting the sway bar links give more travel? any threads about it?

the rear has a add a leaf ,1 1/4 lift block and rear shakcle thats 1 3/4 i think
i measured 8 inches from tire to the fender lip which i cut too.
jeep came uncut with bald 33's , no flairs , the front of the rear fenders hammered in a bit with damage to the passenger side
the new passenger side only tire got cut into while wheeling in the same spot where its dented after being trimmed also,
i grinded a bit more then went to tahuya, couldnt get it to rub but noticed the leaf springs fan out, and its worse on the driver side and the block on this side isnt strait also
need tips on this.should they be strait? can i add extra clips? get better clips, adjust or modify the ones on there,
get these vs these

at tahuya the rear came up on me going down this my blazer never did that, jeep is much lighter i think is why
heres the rear shackle i have checked to see if it moves/flexes dont think it does and there is bolts behind both of them , i will loosen and cut the bolts soon.
i also ordered RC adjustable to 2 inch shackles , but perhaps should get better ones, what are boomerang shackles and why, Also on f150 shackles a 1 inch one gives 1/2 inch so you only get half the lift stated are the jeep shackles the same way? thanks!
i could cut the add a leaf in this pic shorter

found out the leaf straps are too wide , will post back if new ones fix the tire cutting, maybe the axle twists at times when it happens.
also got new ball joints
Dont get joints with the grooves unless your axle already had them has they make the holes bigger and mare the ribs into the axle
i found a few posts saying how cheap ball joints ruined there axle
the cheap ones can also cause bad camber
nappa premiums are good and splicer also. 4wheel drive shops or online will have them

your shackle is to straight up and I recomend shackle relocation boxes to help and they will give more flex do a search you can build them yourself or buy them.

today i got the bump stop plates from ebay 38.00 they where a good deal a bit too heavy duty.
i took off the leaf spring and found the shackle doesn't move unless i loosen it, but then it wiggles around and would chew up the bolts hole.
there was 2 washers on the sides of the shackle bushings. should they be there, the steel sleeve i had to hammer it out
i don't understand how its supposed to rotate with out any bearings, when you press the sleeve in. the rubber bushing holds on to it!
Also on the shackles the bushing sticks out around the edge so when you tighten them it contacts the side and sticks
i know my new shocks have a softer bushing and does the same sticks to the sleeve

The nut is welded on top. If you remove the track bar mount it looks like theres enough of the bolt to grab ahold of with a stud remover or vice grips or double nut maybe? Id soak with pb blaster or equivalent and use a propane torch to heat it up if needed. Hopefully it comes right out for you.

Hey, I like your thread man. Good looking Jeep, and you're fixing it up nicely! Keep up the good work. Wish I could help you with the mechanical stuff, but I'm not the most mechanically inclined person.
