OK so i turn on my wipers for the first time
and they only work on the high speed position,
but they move slow like on low
so what do you guys think is wrong with it?

oh and one more thing when you turn them off they just stop
and dont go back down

On my '97 ZJ there is a yellow 20 amp. circuit breaker for the wipers in the fuse box, and there are 2 wiper relays (1 for on/off, 1 for hi-low) in the PDC under the hood.

Not sure. I'd try one that I know works. Try the horn or AC relay they should fit.

mine doesnt have that relay in the fuse box....
i looked at my wireing diagram in on of my repair book and
my has an wiper motor controler relay box..
anyone know where that is at?

Mark, so, you're saying that your wipers work fine on the high setting and barely move on the low setting?? Am I right? How do your wipers work on the intermittent settings?

Might also be a bad wiper motor. SHould be fairly easy to swap out.

I think the motor's gummed up or something's restricting the cams, or the arms.....

If it works slow on high and then it won't return, the relay's working, its getting power, I would guess its something mechanical thats gummed up or restrictive somehow......

whats happing is nothing works but the high postion
but they move slow and they stop anywhere if you turn off
the switch and dont return to the bottom.
if you think its the motor that is mesed up how can i test it? i could pull it.
i dont want to go to the jy and get another one if thats not the problem

The wiper "parks" with a set of "park" contacts... if your wiper parks as soon as you turn the switch off, the wiper module is seeing that "park" contact all the time.

High- and low-speeds are run with two separate sets of windings (and two separate wires from the wiper control).

You have lost "park" and low-speed... from experience, I would put a wiper motor on it.

If you actually want to know for sure... grab your test light: Backprobe the connections with the motor connected. Test on the wiper-motor-side of the connector.

Turn the key to the "on" position

Connect the test light clamp to the "+" terminal.

Test the black wire... should be ground.

Connect the test light clamp to the "-" terminal.

Test the blue wire... should have batt voltage with the key-on.

Turn the switch to "low"

Test the white wire and red wire... one should have batt voltage

Turn the switch to "high", and the other should have batt voltage.

Turn the switch to the position that actually works

Test the gray wire... as the motor turns, it should be pulsing voltage once per revolution. This is the park-switch.



If you are missing any voltages... the problem is in the module, wiring, switch, or source.

If all the voltages are there, the problem is in the wiper motor.

Mark, sounds like the wiper motor is bad to me. If you pay $10 bucks for a wiper motor at a JY, I'd say you got ripped off. Should be less.
