Will crank but wont start

I Have a 96 Cherokee it wouldn't start so I had to catch it in gear. I replaced the starter and it starting working correctly then one time I was driving it it shut off and now it won't turn back on. It cranks and soundsike it's about to start by it doesn't. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Fuel pump, fuel filter, its out of gas, crank sensor.

Engine: I-6 4.0L AMC Renix

Engine controls unit maybe. Happened to my dads '95 Grand Cherokee a year ago. Maybe go to the mechanic and see if it has any diagnosis issues Pop up that don't show on the dash to see if it's working properly. And check to see if it's mounted correctly and all the connections are intact and that it's not broken or the seal is broken.
