does it matter if you have the small hose up front and the large one going to the breather in back?

looks like previos owner did some rigging and swapped them to make a shorter hose work.

I love these fights! I have an XJ that came from the factory with a pcv in the front of the valve cover and a breather hose in the back.

The elbow is the constant crankcase ventilation... as stated above. There are aftermarket parts with the correct orfice size... the proper name is crankcase vent tube. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=586586 there is an aftermarket piece that is correct. My 90 is not pcv... it is ccv. I have yet to see a Cherokee in the jy with a pcv system. All 4.0 mpi cherokees use ccv.

Is it a 4.0? All 87 up 4.0 are ccv. If yours fits this description and has pcv it was modified, probably due to the fact that someone didn't know what to call the part. As stated if you call Chrysler there are no exceptions in that description.

X2. V6 models, which I think were made until '86 have positive crankcase ventilation fittings. All later inline 6 models have crankcase ventilation, CCV. This thread is great!

Yes, it is. Im laughing my a$$ off here! The guys saying, "We do too have a PVC" are the BEST! Thank you so much for making me laugh and putting me in a better mood.

Like MOST people have mentioned, our I6's dont have PCV valve(Yes, thats P...C...V....VALVE, which stands for positive crankcase ventilation valve, not PVC like polyvinyl chloride which is a thermoplastic polymer). A PCV valve is just that: A VALVE. It reacts to changing pressure and allows the correct amount of gases to flow to their intended destinations basically. Our Jeeps (most of them anyway, I dont know everything about every XJ ever made) have a CCV which stands for constant crankcase ventilation, which does just what it says: Its an open line that allows the crankcase to constantly vent. There is no valve in it, the "V" does NOT stand for valve, it stands for VENT as in VENTILATION.

Now, do people call it a PCV, yes. Are they wrong: YES! You CAN NOT tell from looking at it that it isnt a PCV, they look alike. A large elbow and hose is all you can see from the outside, but they are TOTALLY different inside that elbow. When you go into a parts store and you ask them for a Jeep 4.0 PCV, I bet you ANYTHING they wont find it in their computer. Its not there. If it is, the person who put it in there as PCV and not CCV did so incorrectly. And I have yet to find a NAPA or Car Quest or VIP or Advance Auto that has our CCV. At least the ones in Maine that Ive called dont have them. I recently had to buy one from the dealer.

Great thread guys, keep it up!

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=586586 and I will say auto zone can order it. Some "associates" that don't know their *** from their head will not find it on their super parts computer. You can find it in their website though.

Autozone hooked me up but I had to argue with 3 guys before 1 knew what he was talking about.

I just love it when people make blanket statements, Like Jeeps don't have pcvs or Xj don't have pvcs. I've got 2 in the drive 84/85 Xjs with 2.5s Both are Jeep XJs and have pvcs. His should have the CCV and available at Oreileys auto.
