cam position sensor
Does anyone one know where the cam sensor is on a 96 cherokee 4.0. I bought a coil pick up thinking thats what it is but the code keeps coming up for the cam sensor. What am i missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

under the distributor cap.
remove cap and rotor, then that black plastic plate looking thing is your cam sensor. unplug it and carefully lift it up off the dizzy. it may need a bit of attention where the wire fits in. lift from under that square tab, it'll slide straight up.
then just unplug it and install the new one as the old came out.

Depending on where you shop,..the cost for a cam sensor is not too much lower than a reman distributor (which usually comes with a new cam sensor installed). I had a new sensor to install and I found out someone had broken one of the alum tabs where a distributor cap screws in. Had to replace the whole unit and the cost diff was less than $20.
