What's the widest tire I can run in a stock 97 xj
Just wondering I came across a good craigslist deal there 30x12 tires, just want to know if they'll fit?

They will fit, but they will rub. 30x9.5 would be your best bet, even then you might get a bit of rubbing at full turn.
