Gauge

For a while now, my ac has been acting up. Some time ago, while sitting at a light, it suddenly started squeling really bad. So i turned it off immediately. Turned it back on, after i got going again, and all was fine. Its done that twice noe, in about 6 months.

Also, while the ac is running, if i gas it too much from a dead stop, it will squeel. But, if i take off easy and then gas it, it wont. But it doesnt do that when the ac is off.

Lately, i have been noticing, every now and then.... When im about to park and turn off the vehicle, sometimes, when i shut the ac off, it sounds like a container full of loose parts, tumbling around under my hood. What gives?

maybe bad bearings on the compressor....squealing, maybe you need a new belt.....not sure about the belt tensioner

Remove the belt and spin the a/c pulley by hand. Let it spin free. It should be relatively silent. If not, the bearing is shot. It should not wobble either. While you are there, give the others a spin as well. Same deal.


Cherokees like tight belts. I bought a Krikit II to check and set proper belt tension for my 97. Gates part #91132. You can do it by feel, but the gauge helps.

sure the A/C fan is working proper? sounds like the high side is getting to high causing compressor to lock up..
