Actually, that's false. On OBD-II systems, the PCM does not monitor the t-stat....it monitors when the coolant sensor sees 160F (a completed heat cycle is counted) and when the coolant sensor sees 218F (turns on efan, if equipped with HD cooling).

OBD-II uses the O2 sensor(s) to determine rich/lean mix. Ours runs fine year round with a 180. It's of no significance how long it takes u to swap a pump....take u r time, clean the sealing surfaces sterile, use a thin layer of rtv on both sides of the gasket and DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE BOLTS.

Cudos bro, I did the same to my XJ but i did it directly to my ignition switch so as soon as the car is on the FAN is ON. Did it after I blew my head gasket once. Now it's always on and runs great even on stop and go LA, CA freeways traffic

With my 5.2, going down the road, 200ish, provided its not over 100 degrees. Lately its been 101 to 105, normal now is 215ish. In traffic, its peaked at 220 then dropped the minute I started rolling. AC full blast listening to tunes the whole time.

when you did the rad did you back flush the entire system? if not the sediment in the system accumulates and then if you used hose water it took those minerals and got worse. only used distilled water in the cooling system. hose water will eat it alive

160 bouncing down the freeway at 75-80 in 100+ degrees. 180-190 in city in stop n go in 100+ degrees. I've actually tried to get to 200 & I can barely reach 190.

99XJ,

All I have to say about those pictures is OHHHH MY GOSH...... ;that is some muddy coolant.

You should do a chemical clean and flush of that system, then remove the radiator and have it chemically cleaned.
Replace the thermostat with a 195*, replace the thermostatic clutch fan with one from a ZJ, and replace the radiator cap.
That should keep your engine running cool....
