he has a 4.0l/AW4. He should go with the 4.88 even though the google charts say 4.56 is the ideal ratio. I dont understand how those charts could be accurate just because it doesnt ask for what trans or motor you have

With a 4.0/AW4 combo go with 4.88:1 axle gears. You could live with 4.56:1 but, 4.88s are the perfect gesrs for 35" tires on the XJ.

if is a auto with 4.0L go with 4.88 and if its a stick shift 4.0L go with 4.56, and if it a 2.5L your going to have to get in to the 5 somethings haha and those axle (stock) will not last long on 35" tires unless u dont wheel at all and u drive like a grand pa on the street

I don't mind my 4:10s but I'd love to have 4:88s.
Stock axles will hold up to some wheelin but stay consious of the extra weight and tension put on the axle shafts and R&P.
