What is the best engine flush additive that I can get from napa?? Need something that I can dump in and run for 20 mins or so and drain to get rid of all the effin sludge buildup I have. Any thoughts??

my friend uses gas, although i would not advise it. it does relly get rid of sludge. he got this "wise" idea cause when a mechanical ford oild pump goes out it pumps gas into the oil

Personally I never like to use any engine additives. The main reason is you WILL end up with leaks in places that you never had them before. If you can keep up with the oil changes you shouldn't have to use any engine sludge removers.
Just my opinion.

I was thinking of replacing one quart of oil with marvels mystery oil instead of a standard flush. From what I've read, it seems to be a better alternative, and according to MMO, that is the correct way to use their product.

The other thing you need to consider is all of that gunk that you are dislodging has the potential of plugging up your screen on your oil pump pick up screen. This other issue you may run into is oil leaks where you never had them before as another member already stated.

I understand those risks, my engine has over 250k miles on it and i'm just trying to free up some sticky lifters and quiet it down till next year when I can afford to replace it.

I would dump in some penzoil engine cleaner, let it run for about 20 minutes then do an oil change, you dont want to keep the cleaner in for too long.

Didn't use a whole bottle however... About half. Just to see if it would do anything.

You definitively feel the engine freeing up a bit when you've driven it a good while. I was careful not to fall victim of the placebo effect, but there was a difference. At first I didn't notice anything, "there goes $3 down the drain". After tooling around town, It changed. Best way to describe it is a "slippery" feeling in the engine. Don't know if it's a good thing. Runs a bit quieter, and a bit smoother... You'll feel it went hitting the gas though. Feels like the pistons are slippin and sliding up and down without resistance.

No harm done however.

Glad to hear it worked for you, Im not looking for a miracle here, just want to loosen up some crud and lifters that seem to stick at low engine speeds. Changed my oil at lunch after idling for 45 mins with MMO in it and replacing the filter and oil and adding another quart of MMO in place of one quart of oil and I have to say, It is much quieter at idle you can't even hear it at speed. It sounds alot less like a Cummins diesel now! Still have to see long term effects tho.

Fresh quality oil is the safest. Run for 100 miles, make sure it fully warms up at least twice, change it with a new QUALITY filter. Repeat until it's clean. It may take a few times. The additives in the oil are enough to clean it without disloging gum, plugging passages, starving bearings etc. Other things may not be SAFE.

Unless you know the history of the Jeep, there is no 20 mins work to remove sludge buildup over its 13 years.

^This is what i've done but i use cheap conventional oil + 1 qt of MMO, ran it for 500 miles, repeats that a couple of time, then switch to synthetic with quality filter.

Best thing to use is off road diesel fuel 4 quarts then two quarts of cheap oil,let it idle for about 20 to 30 minutes then drain it and run 6 qts. Cheap stuff for 30mins the replace with some good gtx or Valvoline 10w30 and add a qt of Lucas engine stabilizer.

my 2 cents...even tho it dont matter....penzoil with "active cleaning agents"

i know that it doesnt do anymore than mobil or valvoline...but

if you stay on your oil changes (3-4k miles) and use a good purolator filter or similiar

it should clean just fine after 4-5 oil changes....

although i do pour in a little mmo about 30 min before i change the oil....

never had any issues...

either way you want to do it slow and over some time....a guy i work with took his 2004 f150 to a oil change place...he spent the money and got a "motor flush"

well, turned out it destroyed the engine (in a company truck) and we had to pay 5k to put a new 5.4L v8 in his truck


just go slow with it....little by little

Its turning into an oil debate!!!

Anyways, I've used various engine oil additives just for the hell of. Recently I tried MMO, and that's the only one I can really say cleaned anything. I have a small oil leak (valve cover gasket) and when it lost about a quart, I poured in a quart of MMO. On the next oil change the oil was considerably darker than the previous oil changes.

I might have to try the diesel fuel method though. Because that engine above looks C L E A N
