So im in the process of trying to figure out why my tranny is slipping and found an article about cleaning the Vehicle speed sensor or even replacing it....before i even took the sensor out i noticed it has play and i am able to "wiggle" it around...it that how it is suppose to sit? that normal?

What are you calling a speed sensor? The sender for the Speed O back on the TC? If so, no, it shouldn't be loose. HOWEVER, that has nothing to do with your tranny slipping. If your Jeep has a power/comfort switch...and you haven't done it yet....put the switch in the power position and leave it there. If you've done that already or you don't have the switch then, your tranny has internal clutch issues.

I have a couple threads started about my tranny but the issue is, it slips from stop to go and i found an articel , link below - read first two post on link, i am trying to find anything and everything possible that can make this stop with my tranny before having to replace it all together...the VSS i am talking about is with the TC

The VSS on the Tcase has nothing to do with your transmission slipping at all. All it does is send your speed reading to the speedometer so you know roughly how fast you are going. It shouldnt be loose and you can be loosing a bit of fluid if it is.

EDIT: I think its probably the TCU if you are not low on trans fluid. Mines was low on fluid and it wouldnt shift correctly either.

there is a speed sensor on the transmission it tells the tcu how fast the trans is going mine would drop into low at speed and stay there didnt slip though its hard to find on a 4wd its behind the transfer shifter mounting plate but can be removed and replaced without removing anything but the bolt holding it in if you dont mind grinding a little of the mount the speed sensor at the tail shaft does nothing to control the trans

The AW4 manual specifically mentions the VSS and its location on the TAILSHAFT OF THE TRANSMISSION. You can find those references on pages 3 and 23 of the AW4 manual.

Post 1997 a 2nd VSS was added.

When you say tailshaft of the transmission.....that is...at the TC like the picture like i have above?...im new to this and everything i know about my jeep iv learned off of here

That appears to be the one. Its on the driver's side, has a 3 lead electrical connector and is retained by a singe 10mm bolt. With the bolt out, the VSS is held in place by a large O-ring around its periphery. A square cross sectioned metal piece projects from the end.

If you've already done the manual trans testing with either the TCU unplugged, or the TCU fuse removed and had the problem, you are failing the time lag test mentioned in the AW4 manual.
