Default vacuum line?

hey guys, i have a line that is split on the passenger side of hte engine bay, by the firewall, and i was wondering what it went to. its purple and comes from a cylinder that has three other lines coming from it and all of them are different colors. it goes to another little something down lower towards the passenger wheel well inner side. i am going to replace all the vacuum lines but this seems to do nothing so i was just wondering any one knows what it is. i have no factory manual for this vehicle (or even a haynes yet) so i cannot look it up myself.

thanks

its not a wire though, its a very tiny hose that is light purple in color. its so small that i am wondering where i am going to get a replacement for it. if it was a wire it would be a large diameter wire, like an 8 gauge or so. almost an 1/8th of an inch in diameter but its a hose and is a 8 to 12 inches long, if i remember right.

also, this is an 87 so one of the renix guys form the 80s would probably be better able to answer since i imagine they would have it. i don't remember this line being on my 95 cherokee but my 95 was 2x4 not 4x4 so maybe it a vacuum line for the 4x4?

Purple line goes to the HVAC selector in the dash. It needs to be repaired to make it work correctly.

what is it controlling though? the hvac panel works fine. when i pick different settings it adjusts fine. i got you guys some pics though

i also found out some interesting stuff, if you use a small enough hose you can make a slip joint by pushing the purple hose as hard as you can into a braided rubber vacuum line that fits over the top.

the broken vacuum line

what does this need to go to? it is sitting with not a thing near it that looks like it goes together

That blue hose is your 4x4 vacuum system vent and check valve, it is FINE. The purple is the vacuum supply to your heater valve, it comes through the firewall, and goes to the heater valve. It is most def NOT FINE.

SuperJ, what you have when it is not hooked up, like yours, is a heater core that always has hot water going through it, you will get heat, if you live in a cool clim ate you may not need it, here in Florida, you dont want that hose broke or disconnected.
