Hey guys- putting my Stroker in this week- wanted to remove the AC for awhile to save some weight/lighten load on engine- (I NEVER use it- even when stationed in LA)- After researching a bit, found that Dorman makes an idler AC bypass pulley (part 34237) so I will be getting that today.

My question is how much of the AC system should I remove? Obviously the Compressor/Condenser but I am not sure about the canister that is connected to it in the back (accumulator/dryer I believe).. Should I just cut the lines (already had them properly evacuated) and plug them where they go into the firewall? Can I just leave the harnesses unplugged without any problems? Anything else I should do at the same time?

Not to sound like a smart a$$ or anything. But it really depends on how much you want to pull out of there. You can remove as little as just the compressor or you can just go for it and rip every thing related to the ac out. Also you can just unplug the harness. But I would at least wrap it with some electrical tape and you should be good to go.

I want to rip everything out that I can- just wanted to make sure there would be no damaging effects from removing that canister in the back.

Nope you won't have any problems pulling it all out. If you don't plan on reusing it you may want to sale the parts. I sure there is some one that can use them. The goo thing is once you pull the compressor and install the delete pulley you can pull the rest of the stuff a little at a time or just go for it and do it all at once.

Haha already done... Cut lines at for wall.. Pulled the rest out Was just waiting for the okay thanks man

Good Job! and not a problem.
I have never pulled the ac unit on any of my XJ's. But I have pulled one on a friends and pulled them from several other vehicles that I owned and never had a problem.

I ripped it all out and just capped the plugs at the firewall. the rest got ripped out.
If I ever want A/C again I was going to need everything new anyway.

I guess you don't plan on running the defroster either, I think the AC runs anytime it is on also.

The defroster will still work with out the ac. Think about the ones that didn't come with ac and they still have a defroster. The ac just help to remove the moister when the defroster is on.

Hope u didn't cut anything (possible re-use later)......the refrigerant lines use quick connects (4 of them) that r just clipped together/come apart easily and the electrical stuff just unplugs.

Yep, the defrost will work fine without a/c, it's the defog that will no longer work without a/c.

I won't be using it- wanted to get rid of it for awhile now. Honestly can't remember last time I used it... always have the window down. I'll just be throwing it in the scrap truck (not much luck selling that kind of stuff- just sits around) That being said I only cut two lines (bolt cutters) right before the joint at the firewall so if I sold it they could easily hook it all back up.

I do have a problem though- got the AC compressor off- 3 bolts came out easy. One was giving me problems so I let it sit in some liquid wrench for awhile- still wouldn't move so I heated it up- still nothing so I pushed it and it snapped. Luckily there is still some of the threads sticking up so I should be able to get it out... hopefully lol.
