I have not had my tranmission rebuilt but I would imagine craigslist would have some transmissions for cheap - get one and have it installed

Rebuilds can be spendy. Get at least 2 quotes and be sure 1 is from an independent shop if you are thinking about it. You can easily get close to 2k into this type of work if they do everything.

As mentioned, a salvage yard transmission is a great plug and play option. I have installed more than I can remember in 38 years and have only had 1 that didn't work out. And that was replaced, except of course they don't warranty your labor.

Default Check ebay

I have seen several tranys on ebay at resonable prices. Look for low mileage if you can find one, change filter and trans fluid. Rent a trans jack and change it your self.

There's a shop in Sun Valley (Los Angeles area) that offers them for $795 plus core. I haven't used them but they offer a lot of Jeep parts and services so I ASSume they know what they're doing.
