Default transmission problems

hey all,
just yesterday my jeep started wanting to not downshift. if i take off and put my foot into it the tranny shifts really smooth but it seems to shift too early. while im going down the road if i put my foot into it the tranny wont downshift to give me more power to accelerate it just stays in the same gear as it was. this all started yesterday and i didnt notice it until after i sprayed the jeeps engine compartment down to clean it up a little. the jeep is a 1990 jeep cherokee 4wd 4.0 not sure on what tranny it has because idk how to tell. any help would be greatly apreciated. i will be checking the tps as soon as i find my voltmeter. thanks for the help in advance

i just went out and adjusted the kickdown cable and that didnt change anything. still cant get the rpm's over about 2200 with my foot to the floor before it shifts into the next gear my tps should be good because i just replaced it about a month ago.
