intermittant charging problems
My 91 cherokee, with a 4.0 liter eng., has intermittant charging issues, which causes the battery to run down. the battery passes muster on a load test, and is only two years old. the alternator always seems to charge at or above 12.75 volts. the alternator is probably original. the charging rate does vary between 12.75 and 14.35 or so. i understand this model has the voltage regulator in the ECU. Which brings up the question, where is the ECU installed in this vehicle? How do i figure out which component is the problem? Can a Bosch alternator with an internal voltage regulator be used on this engine with or without modification? Any ideas will greatly appreciated.
