Default transmission manualy shifts but wont shift normally unless hard on the gas??

i know a guy who want to buy my motor... hes got a 93 XJ and just stuck a transmission in it that came with the jeep when he got it... but it didnt fix his problem so its got to be something else... he says if you get on the gas real hard and let out of it it will shift up... and it will shift up manualy... but wont just do it on its own with reg driving... its 2x4 and like i said this happened with both transmissions... and he used the newer trannys TC... anyone know what the deal is?

adjust the throttle body to trans linkage? maybe the trans thinks he's giving i the beans all the time and its making the trans rev higher before changing gears? re-calibrate the TPS?

The throttle pressure cable is not hooked up, or way out of adjustment.

On my 1990 it was the IAC on the throttle body. I was told by someone on here to unplug the tranny PC on the passenger side panel right below your knees if sitting in the seat. I think it is yellow. If it will shift manually then the IAC is bad but you say your friends will shift manually right?
Worth a try if he has a pull a part near him. I bought a brand new looking IAC for $7 and it fixed mine so far

Sounds like its either the TPS or the TV cable is out of adjustment
I would adjust the TV cable and if that doesnt fix it the TPS needs to be checked.

To adjust the TV cable you:
1: Push in and hold the release button
2: While holding in release button, push "conduit" in as far as it will go
3: Release button
4: Rotate throttle to WOT, some people do this with the gas pedal. Others do it from the engine compartment.
5: Hold at WOT for a few seconds, cable should ratchet out a click or two.
6: Your TV cable should now be properly adjusted, take it for a test ride.

You mean TPS (throttle Position Sensor), The IAC controls airflow at Idle to keep the motor running and nothing else. It has nothing to do with the Trans..

Default transmission manually shifts but won't shift normally unless hard on the gas ??

my XJ wouldn't shift without being in manual mode until I changed the speed sensor on the transfer case/tailshaft. Something to think about. Good Luck

TV: Throttle Valve, it adjusts line pressure in the trans which controls the firmness of the shift.
