97 xj odometer only works sometimes?

97 xj odometer only works sometimes?
About every four times I start it, the odometer will not count the 5 miles i drive it to work. Any ideas why? Thanks in advance.

Does your speedo work when this happens?
Probably a loose connection or a missing tooth on one of the gears...mostlikely all internal. Should be fun. **sarcasm**
