Transmission Help
I need some help figuring out whats wrong with my 01 XJ. Ok so here whats going my check engine light came on about a month ago. I had it read and i got a few codes back po455, po1694,p705,po740. The po740 i started working on first. So i checked the fluid it was low so i added some fluid and then the light went off. Drove it for about a week then the light came back. Had it read again and got the same codes back. Then i went back to work on po740. So i changed the fluid out. The fluid that out wasnt very pretty but no metal. Now heres my other problem i have. The light is still on but now everytime if im stopped at a red light stop sign etc. And then i take off with a little power i hear a grinding sound coming what seems like the transmission. So do i replace the transmisson or is it something else? So any help with this and any information on the other codes would be much appreciated. Thanks

If it is the transmission it probably won't last much longer. A lot of shops offer free estimates this may be the best way to go.
One note, always flush the cooler and use a new torque converter when replacing an automatic transmission.

Well here is some more information on my problem. I was out driving the xj around trying to figure this out. But it seems i only get the grinding sound when the tires lose traction and start spinning.

Not sure what lsd is or stands for. I believe its a d35 rear. I thought if it was the clutches it would do it all the time not sure about that though. Well after driving around today. The transmisson shifts smooth and fine. Seems to go through all the gears ok. Just when it breaks traction i get that noise

Limited slip differential. If you have one in the rear differential they have clutches in them that can wear out. When they wear out they can make nasty sounds when they engage. They typically. Engage when a tire starts to spin.

Ok. I was just looking it up. I will have to do some research on it to see if my rear has it or not. Is there a way i can tell by looking at it. Like numbers or marking on the cover?

If you still have the factory axle, you can get the build sheet with your vin. It would have it past that the only way I know of is to open it up and look.
