RUST!!!!
I have rust on the top portion of my roof that seals up to my windshield. Just found out when i washed it and there was water in the cab. With keeping the windshield on and trying to scrape as much as I can off. Any suggestions?

What year is the Jeep xj?
Is it used only as an off road beater?
Can you post a picture of the rust/leak area?
The rust must go deep enough into the sealing area between the glass and the roof metal in order to leak.
I could be wrong but i think Jeep changed the windshield trim style a little over the years. My 2k xj has only a rubber trim piece sealed with adhesive.
Myself, if my xj and to do it right, i'd remove the windshield and take it from there.
On the other hand, if it's a beater, i'd remove the rust, bondo, prime and paint. Then if possible try lifting the seal gasket, clean with alcohol then silicon the h*ll in that area.

The windshield will need to be removed to fix the problem it's a common one. Many have it done at a body shop because of the area which is also to be sealed later must be finished properly. The rust may go down quite a ways into the windshield sealing area and it must be removed (the rust) before repair of the area or it will continue.

The leak in the windshield fried my overhead powerlock module above the rearview mirror and kept shorting out my I.O.D fuse. Dont let it get to bad!!!

same here, when i wash it or it rains i don't have any water inside, but i did notice some vertical streaks when the windows are fogged up. i'm not sure if it's from water infiltration or condensation. either way i need to do this too, waiting to see if the windshield cracks so i can replace it because the local glass shop can't guarantee the removal without breaking the glass due to its age.

Thats exactly what my local glass shop told me as well. I am almost tempted to renting tools out to pull it out myself with a few buddies and try and get it done right without the cost of a new windshield.

A new windshield is about a $100 or less in most all glass shops installed for an XJ.
They can NOT do rust repair when replacing a windshield at a glass shop you need a body shop. Also if you have never pulled any windshields before chances are very good you will break it. You will not know how bad it really is until the glass is pulled and all the rusty material cut out and repaired or it will just keep rusting until it's almost to late to repair.
