Ive searched but most threads have the links for the photos broken which could really help right now.

Today i attempted getting to my heater core to re-solder a hole thats leaking. I have muriatic acid for cleaning and acid core solder.

Im just cant find the bolts to remove the heater core from the engine bay.

I have a 99 xj with a 4.0. Im stuck here.

The bolts stick through the firewall into the engine side. 4-6 of them I think.

Why don't you just get a new heater core while you are this far into it? To heck with solder and acid.

Insurance is due this month and its winter. I dont mind touching it and leaving the dash apart till a later pay period but i cant havr it making a pool i the floor pan anymore.

Are they 1/2"? This is what i read and i looked but found no 1/2"s. i notably remember 2 nuts on a stud thru the firewall that are also connected to a black cylindrical a/c component. Are these part of the mounting bolts?

hey stop by a local garage and ask them to print you up the instructions for the job from alldata or mitchell, offer to pay them 10$ fr it or something

anyone know the size of the bolts cause im on a hunt apparently for 1/2'ers but i dont see any.

i have the ehow thqat ive been trying to go off. unfortunately its not very accurate. i found the bolts but they arent 1/2" they are 7/16" and i only found 4 and after removing the heater lines i still cant get the darn thing out. the hvac box jiggles but its not free and i dont know where the remaining bolt is.

There may be a hidden bolt behind the radio.

Got the hidden bolt behind the radio. I took the clips off the ac lines but i can separate them which im sure i can figure out.

Thank you for that link. One of the pictures shows where the other bolt is so im gonna go out now and see if i can locate it from a different viewing angle "that area behind cylinder 1 is tight".

Edit: i think i found it. I thought it was just a mounting stud for the line thats connected

There are 5 bolts. 2 directly behind engine one of them is down nehind the head. Two with a/c components. And one hiden way over by fender under all that, kinda had to feel around to find that one. I think they are 11 or 12 mm nuts.

Jeep is finished, not one single bolt left behind. Looks like it was never taken apart. Heat works with no internal leaks.
But.... i now need some mysterious pipe that extends from the water block to the return heater line. Old one cracked from removing heater lines.

I am still working up the nerve to tackle this task on my '99.

Water block? If it's the water pump pipe get a brass fitting 5/8" hose barb X 3/8" male pipe thread, and a little longer length of heater hose.

i was able to successfully tackle this with a little help from forums and reading. its a lot of tear down and organization.

sorry i called it a water block from years of doing custom water cooled pc's. yes water pump and i read about that solution which seems to last longer than the OEM part so today i am doing that once i find a ride into town.
