trailer hitch
i want to put a hitch on my cherokee, and i was looking at how i should mount it, and didnt really see a good spot to mount it, on one side i saw holes that were threaded, on the other side i just saw a few random holes in the frame, i was just wondering how everyone else mounted theirs, and also if there is a plug for the trailer lights, of if it has to be hardwired, thanks

I got a bolt up class-III from Pep-Boys and it bolted right into the existing rear sub-frame, it took a little persuading due to the fact the XJ was 8 years old and some of the holes were a wee bit corrodded, but it went right in. You will probably need an impact to do it, but its easy. I welded mine just for reinforcement after it all was in. As for the trailer wiring, I think Hoppy makes a harness that plugs in inbetween the vehicle harness and the taillight assembly. Super simple to get done.

I went to the junk yard and got one for 12 bucks. It bolts through nut strips in the frame wells that are accessible by removing the rear bumper. Very easily installed. If you have a factory skid plate you will already have nut strips other wise you will want to grab them out of the junkyard when you get the hitch. Some after market companies use a larger rectangular washer to replace the nut strips but there a pain cuase you have to fish the bolts through the frame into the holes.

As for trailer lights, you need the wiring harness. It's a plug n tow kit:

your local auto parts store should carry this item too. i've seen them in retail stores like wal-mart and such. You have to remove the side panel to access the wiring to the driver's side taillight and then plug it in.
