TPS problems...?
Just bought a 96 XJ a couple of months ago. Over the past few weeks, I have been having some strange problems. The XJ doesn't have as much power as it should, and every once in a while it "hiccups". The hiccup can be described as a sudden brake for just a split second, and then it will drive fine. At first I thought it was the clutch slipping, but the more research I decided it would be worth checking out the TPS. The TPS sensor reading did not come close to 4.8v (it was reading .76v with the throttle closed and 3.8v with the throttle wide open), so I promptly replaced it. Now its even worse, as its now reading .63v - 3.6v. I probably wouldnt be the first person who has gotten a defective sensor from autozone, but maybe I'm overlooking something. Do you guys have any idea?
its a 1998 XJ sport 2.5l with an AX5 tranny and Chrysler 8.25 rear end. I've recently changed most of the fluids as well as the plugs & wires. The grounds look pretty solid.

TPS problems...?
I had similar symptoms and it finally threw a code for the TPS. Replacing the TPS cured the hiccup for a short while but it returned and I just lived with it. Time went by and I thought it time for a tune up. Pulled the plugs and they were very worn down with a gap close to 50. Replaced the plugs and wires and the hiccup went away.

I've recently replaced the plugs with Champions and gapped them to .35. I would be surprised if there was something wrong with them. Electrical gremlins are always a pain to track down.
