Make sure all of the bolt holes are flat. Over torquing will cave in the holes not allowing the gasket to work. Any kind of thin metal like an oil pan I have gotten to where I use a 1/4" ratchet and choke my hand all the way up to the head of it. That way I cannot easily over torque it and bend the metal
Never have many leaks.

1/4"-20 screws (7/16" wrench) are 84 pound-inches/7 pound-feet
5/16"-18 screws (1/2" wrench) are 132 pound-inches/11 pound-feet
60 pound-inches/5 pound-feet.
Torque specs may be found on my site under Tech Archives - I'll be adding to it all as I accumulate FSMs and TSMs (Factory Service Manuals or Techical Service Manuals - both are factory literature. The only non-factory literature I'll post specs from will be either Motor or Mitchell manuals - which have Chilton's, Haynes, and even the old Clymer manuals beat all hollow...)
