OK so i have a stock 2.8L xj(auto) and i was thinking of puting a 4.5" in lift on it and, my buddy of mine has some 33s he'd sell to me for next to nothing and i was just wondering if putting 33s on a 2.8L motor would just be to much for the lil guy. and tips or advise? Thanks

Size of motor, doesn't limit tire size. Sami's are 1.3l and run 35" all the time. Axle gears and clearance are really what limit tire size.

I had a 2.8L in my 86. I can tell you that I used 31s on stock gears with no problem and did a lot of shifting on hills. You could probably get away with it, but I would keep your stock set of tires and just use these for off highway. Otherwise I would regear to 4.88s up from your 4.10s if you wanted to run these all the time. Another thing you can do is up your horsepower considerably using Bosch +4 plugs. You will gain an extra 1000 rpms on the top end and the horsepower to go with it.

You will have 4.10s more than likely with that motor.

Take it slow and you should be decent, though you don't really have much motor so you'll rely on the ratio to the wheels, just remember that. Your stock case will only be 2.61:1 (Np207)

Personally I wouldn't do it, but everyone runs their rig differently so who am I to judge?

You can do it, but it will be a slug. regearing would be a good idea, but costly.

mkay well ill keep that in mind, i could just get some 31s but the 33s are dirt cheap, im not sure but they could just be free, im not much of a driver right now i have alot of muddin spots and trails all around my place
