Always look for the obvious things: Oil leaks, rust, overheating problems, rough idle, body damage, oil pressure, etc. etc. look at the entire thing, front to back, top to bottom. Make sure your eye sees every inch of it!

X2^.... 2.8 is a problem in itself. Upside if its a good enough deal, then a 3.4 from a camaro is a good swap.

so i checked it out guy could barely speak english so the ad was way off its a 4.0 manual had a valve cover leak and the idle would stay at 1500 with the tps sensor plugged in but the main conc ern was a small whine going through the gears sounds like a throw out bearing is this common is it just a whine any infor would be greatly appreciated possibly going back tomorrow

If it has a 4.0 in it, it's not an '86.

And I hardly doubt someone did a swap.

Oh just, you know. A throwout is sort of connected to your foot. The sound is gonna change when your pushing and when your not. Might be a good deal if the body is sound. Not sure, but I think they might be somewhat sought after.

body is sound. yeah kinda had a brain fart purrty positive its the throw out. whine, push in the clutch no whine, back into gear whine, so on and so forth.....really wish i had the time and money to take it on as a project for my self swap that thing to 4x4 and have some fun... kinda sucks that my father inlaw will be using it for a beater work truck especially as hard as they are to find in good shape with a 4.0
