1999 xj shut off without hesitation while driving
I have 99 Cherokee. I was driving and it just shut off. No sputter or warning. Fuel pump seems to be working, so I tested for spark by pulling a plug wire, and trying to ground it while manually cranking the starter from under the hood. it's possible I was making a bad connection but it appeared that I wasn't getting spark. If that's the case, I'm looking at probably a bad ignition coil. so what is a good way to test for that. I don't have a meter or a test light but I do have basic wrenches, sockets, screw drivers, and a length of 12g wire. Also what may be some other possibilities

Crank Position Sensor would be the first thing I checked....but you need a meter to do that.
Shamelessly stolen instructions:
CPS Testing
.
TESTING PROCEDURE 1991 – 2001 4.0L H.O. engines
1. Near the rear of intake manifold, disconnect sensor pigtail harness connector from main wiring harness.
2. Place an ohmmeter across terminals B and C (SEE Image). Ohmmeter should be set to 1K-to-1OK scale for this test.
3. The meter reading should be open (infinite resistance). Replace sensor if a low resistance is indicated.

Alright I will test that. I have a friend bringing my trailer and an ignition coil. I'm going to replace that real quick and if it's not that I will just trailer it to my tools rather than bring tools to it
