Default Strange smoke??

So long story, I was in Michigan's U.P. for 10 days, in which time my jeep hardly came off idle. Back in gods country, where the roads are terrible. Jeep performed great, on the second to last day, I fired her up and let it idle, while i got my **** together. headed up to the ridge which is only like a half mile away. by the time I got there she was blowin' all kinds of white smoke out of the tailpipe that smelled like dirty burned oil. I shut her down, checked the radiator, oil and looked for any leaks. all looked well. so I hiked back in the rest of the way and did what I had to, took me a couple of hours. Got back in the jeep, and by the time I got back to camp, same white smoke pourin out the tailpipe. I am thinkin' head gasket, problem is everyone else has headed home. I am 500 miles away from home and thinkin' my truck is boned. so next mornin' I finish loading up and figure I will go as far as she'll take me and then figure something out. So we start down the road, she went all 500 miles without a problem at all. Same gas mileage (17) ran fine.Talked to a mechanic buddy of mine and he said it sounded like a vacuum line from the tranny sucked up some fluid. After he said that I realized it did smell like tranny fluid, but I dismissed it since it was coming out of the tailpipe. So anyway, I am baffled. Has anyoned ever had a similar problem to this.is the explanation my buddy gave even possible??

Ill blow white smoke when Im on the highway after a few miles.

It usually happens after a few days of local driving.

Your just burning oil, its ok.

I was thinking of having my head rebuilt....but maybe not. Might wait and save money for a crate 4.0

Yeah, I don't know. I just know it seems fine now. unfortunately it was my birthday when I thought it was broke and I was 500 miles from home.not a good birthday cuz I was all stressed out. but when it all worked out, I was real happy.

coolant in the exhaust will produce lots of white smoke and have a terrible smell. but since you did not have a cooolant loss, oil burning issue is the only other possible thing.

did you check the trans fluid level?
double check all fluids, that;s all one can do. keep an eye of them.

Mine did that(lots of whote smoke and oil dripping from the tailpipe) when I was stuck. After I got it out and back level the smoke stopped and now runs like nothing happened.
