What is the stock tire size for a 98 XJ? I'm wondering if I have the same problem. My full size spare is a 225/70/R15 and the tires i have on now are 225/75/R15

I have brand new 31's on stock height and stock rims. I had used 31's since May or so. It only rubs if I turn the wheels all the way or hit a very hard bump. When I have passengers in the back, it hits a lil' harder.
I might trim a bit because I can't flex alot right now lol.

that is weird....while mine were at stock high they didnt rubb at all.. and I had that...
to the OP, you can run 31" on stock rims... but its suggested to get 8" wide rims.. (your stock ones are 7") , also if you dont want to modify much the xj, you can run 30" x 9.5 x 15.. is closer to stock size... it might rub a lil, thats why I suggest to lift a lil,, it will look better and if you dont lift too much, you wont affect your MPG

as the manager of tire kingdom and certified with tires, a 30/9.5/15 is equivalant to a 235/70/15. if you go to a 33" or higher, then u are spot on in size, but anything under a 33" is usually 1" smaller than it says. im riding on 30/9.5/15 on my stock 2000 cherokee classic. u can fit a 32/10.5/15 in a 3" lift. i own 4 jeep cherokees and had to do no body modification to fit a tire. thank you and enjoy mudding!

I got my jeep used and put 30x9.5x15 on them without issue. I think it maybe has a slight lift though. The rear has the axle under the leaf springs and I don't think that is stock.

I got 235's with a 2"'BB and I rub when locked left on LCA and just a little bit on the top of the wheel well where the flare for the spring is (I know a pic might help explain this... But it's dark...) the fact the my sway bar links don't "exist" on my jeep may or may not facilitate this...

Dont forget guys the newer xj's like 1997-01 have smaller wheel well openings than the earlier cherokee's thus the differance in what tire sizes work out in the differant years.( not 100% sure on the year that the opening size's changed but it was the year when the body style changed to the newer one)Plus dont forget the upcountry package is one inch taller than stock xj's(spring wise)
