I was wheelin once and my truck died. The connection for the cps was lose, the Wire for the cps is to short so I had to wiretie it around the connectors so make sure it's tight( the aftermarket cps wires were shorter than own)

So wire tie the connection becuase it comes barely undone? Huh i did replace it so ,i could try that ,also im experiencing bogging of the motor and misfire so i saw something about insulating the injectors because the manifold gets too hot ,im wondering if its all related ? At least there is a CHEROKEE FORUM haha

Ya i found out about the cam sensor and havent replaced it yet but when i squeeze the connection while my friend starts it,it starts right up ,my jeep stalls at red lights ,wont start (unless i mess with wires) ,often the hazards come on when turning on left blinker, and boggs pretty good at the worst times like a misfiring of some sort

Ok check your ignition switch to see if it's getting stuck in a dead spot after you start if it doesnt fully go back to run position that's your problem

before you do anything to try and fix it. With your jeep running wiggle the computer connector and see if it stalls. I just chased this issue for a month and resplicing a new computer connector on is what fixed it.

This thread is over 7 years old. I think it may have been resolved or sold by now.

A common problem is the CPS (Crank Shaft position Sensor). Now if this is an intermittent problem i would suspect that. Sometimes this sensor will just take a crap and you wont get spark. Or some times they will cause random stalling, rough idle, or just wont start period. The sensor is 90$ located by the bell housing on the tranmission and the plug is by the Intake Manifold.

Just a thought
The crank shaft sensor on my 96 was intermittent and over a period of about 6-8 months it got worse until it failed altogether. Had I understood the bucking, stalling, starting difficulty to be sourced to it I'd have replaced it in the beginning.

BTW, I bought a cheapo ($45.00) from Rock Auto, installed it in the parking lot where the original failed, and it started right up. Then, about 2 miles down the road it failed again. I was lucky enough to safely coast into another parking lot. I got a tow to my house (AAA), bought a factory sensor for about twice the price and installed it. It's been about a year now without further problems. Don't cheap out on that sensor.
