Gauge cluster swap

Gauge cluster swap
I have a 1999 4x4 5 speed 4.0,it's a base model with idiot dash lights instead of gauges.I know I can buy a gauge cluster,fits right in supposedly,buy a new temp and oil sender,I'm good to go ,right? A mechanic told me the swapped in speedo may or may not work.Might require a trip to the dealer for a computer adjustment to accept the different speedo.Do any of you have experience with this? thanks.

The gauge cluster and the PCM both contain the vehicle VIN number. If the numbers do not match the CEL will come on. The PCM can be reprogrammed but I really don't know if the gauge cluster can.

I swapped out the 1999 idiot light cluster for 2000 gauge cluster.Didn't change any senders for oil or coolant....Works exactly as it should,no check engine light after 100 miles of driving.The digital odomenter shows the mileage of the donar vehicle, lucky to get one within 5000 miles of the one I had.
