Default Squeeky Pully, belt, or what??

hello all, ive researched and watched some videos but my squeek just wont go away i tried loosening/ tightening the idler pulley, same with the belt. new idler pulley and belt, i thought it was the water pump but the squeek goes away when i spray it with pb. the squeek also increases with the engine rpms so everytime i hit the gas it gets louder. could it be a crappy pulley surface or rust in the pulley grooves of the crank pulley? i also hear a different chirp that sounds like a pulley bearing i just dont want to replace the waterpump if i dont have too especially because it doesnt come with a new pulley.. any info or experience would be appreciated. i think said pulley to much

I had this "canned". I still get some chirping on both though....

Soaping Belt
Tight, tighter, tightest the darn new belt would still chirp.
Finally in desperation I went out there with a bottle of Dawn dish soap and the garden hose. Idling, I got it wet, then squirt soap on both sides, rinsed some, and soaped a little more. Let it idle a minute all soapy. To end, I ran the hose slow on it running for a couple minutes. Bingo! That solved it. There was some sort of coating on the new belt? Idk. (repeat)

What type of belt are you running? Also, I recommend a belt tension gauge to verify you actually are torquing the belt to proper spec.

Have you tried spinning each pulley with the belt off? Such as the power steering, water pump etc.

yes, all the pulleys seem fine i actually looked into it a little farther last night i noticed the belt isnt on the fan pulley all the way and the belt is actually making a shiny bare metal spot around the water pump.. so looking straight down from the fan pulley to the alternator it almost looks like thats whats pulling the belt back. idk if its the wrong alternator or not is there any adjustments for them??

That ain't right. No there is no adjustment for that. Check the Crank pulley carefully. It's two piece, with rubber between the inner hub and the outer ring. Those are known to go fubar. If your ring has slid out some, that would affect alignment.

From my understanding, if you pour water on a belt and the squeak goes away that usually indicates that it's either a belt issue or a tension issue. My belt was squeaking extremely loud a little while ago and I knew I didn't need to replace the belt since I had so this summer with a gator back belt. I at first thought it was my power steering pump going out so I replaced the fluid in it again. The squeal was still there, I ended up tightening the belt quite a bit more and now it is silent.

The balancer would be my guess. When that goes bad the outer ring can walk itself back into the timing cover, and pull the belt back a little. If left alone the outer ring will eventually chew thru the cover, so it is worth checking. The outer ring can walk forward as well. Either way, a squealing belt will be the least of your worries.

Lay a straight edge across the face of each pulley and see what you come with. Like said, a tension gauge can be used to double check the belt. I use a Gates Krikit II (part #91132). Tension should be 180-200 ft-lbs for a new belt, and 160 or so for a used one.

Not what i was expecting, but id say you found the squeak. Could just be the angle or maybe the shadow, but it looks like the fan pulley is crooked (2nd pic), with the belt possibly sliding off the back side? Take a pic of the balancer (crank pulley). None of pulleys wobble, do they?

In case it's helpful to anyone here's pics of my new crank pulley. (harmonic balancer) 1990 Cherokee. The "saw-tooth" for the timing marks seem to end exactly at the inner edge of the pulley. Also by eye I'd say a fat 1/16, more like 3/32's from the pulley to the timing chain cover. Maybe cleaned I'd say an eighth.

Your belt is definitely running too far in toward the block.
