Default squeaking noise when making a sharp turn going slow........

hey guys ... heres a new one.

my 97 xj 4wd with 150k on it has started to squeak when im making a slightly sharp to very sharp turn . it always happens when im going 5mph or less and need to turn out of a parking spot , driveway, etc .

it sounds like squeaky shoes or something. . . but if definitely makes a sound with the wheels.
it ONLY does it when its turning... just before i straighten the wheel it stops.

i lubed up the cv grease fitting , but thats about it .
sound like wheel bearings or hub?
never had to replace that on other jeeps .
its a faint noise, not real loud or anything .

any input would be great . maybe ill pull the tires off this weekend and inspect... but to be honest i wouldnt really know what to look for. i know that when the CV joints go they make a loud creaking noise, as that what happened on my old jeep . this is more of a mouse squeak . . think it might be wheel bearings.... who knows.

Hey, have you put on new tires recently? My new tires "squeak" at 2-5mph when I cut the wheel sharply into a parking space or to do a sharp u-turn. Just a thought.

It's an entirely different beast but my 68 Mustang had bad LCA bushings or the equivalent of and made that noise you're describing. Was embarrassing/annoying. I was young and penniless though so they never got replaced. I can still hear that squeak in my nightmares.

Is it a lower pitched creak or a high pitched squeak? Also, what rear axle do you have? If it is a low pitched creak and you have a Dana 35 limited slip differential (trac-lock as Chrysler calls it), change the fluid making sure to use friction modifier.
Mine used to do this and it freaked me out for the longest time, and I basically tried everything else before replacing the diff oil.

EDIT: this was six months ago...well may help!

its not too loud of a squeak but i realize its there and it annoys the hell out of me. and its only from the drivers side front axle. i noticed it happens more when i turn at full lock (left or right) and when i slowly speed up, it stops around maybe around 10 MPH as soon as i straighten the wheel out

well i talked to a jeep only mechanic about it , and he said its the cv joint . i picked up one fr 8.99 and am fearing putting this thing in . gotta find a good tutorial on here. i think theres one.

anyways , it does it only when i turn . . like in a parking lot . and its HIGH pitched. imagine the EEE AWWW EEE AWWW thing without the AWWWW's . its just EEEEE.........EEEEEEEEE....EEEEEE .

he said it can only be 2 things: cv joint or wheel bearing/hub assy. and with the wheel bearings youll hear them in any direction you turn the wheel , and they dont make that high squeak .

so i think its about time for me to dive into this once and for all .
