Default Squeaking

Hey guy's I did some searching on the forum but there is all different answers. I have a constant squeak coming from the front of the engine. I have replaced the serpentine belt and the idler pulley which did nothing. The noise isn't a steady endless squeal it is a slower squeak... squeak...squeak which happens once every half second or so. Could this be a bad water pump? How hard is it to change and what all do I need to take off to change it? If thats the problem

When water pumps go bad they usually leak. It could be anything that the belt goes around: Power Steering Pump, A/C Compressor, Alternator, and you probably have 2 idler pulleys. Take the belt off and see if any of them make noise by spinning them.

Well it seems like its coming from the water pump and when I spray wd-40 on/around the pulley, it stops for a couple seconds, then starts again.

The bearing in the pulley is probably going bad then. You should change it out before it explodes and leaves you stranded. My friends xj pump pulley exploded and messed his fan shroud up sumthin fierce!!! YEEEEHAAAAAWWW

I'll do that, thanks. Do I get the whole new water pump? or can you get the bearing separate?

You should replace the pump..also the belt idler pulley.Dont forget to mark which bolt goes in which hole..they're different lengths.I just did my kids 99 XJ today, not a bad job just time consuming. You have to pull the fan, shrouds, and PS pump to access the waterpump.
