Default Squeaking in 4WD

I have a 94 jeep cherokee sport and when I shift it into 4WD, I get a lot of squeaking coming from the truck when it is in motion. In 2WD it is fine.
If this is of any help either: after i shifted into 4WD, i cut the wheel all the way and drove and the steering wheel does have some jerk to it.

Any ideas as to what it could possibly be?

Thanks in advance

Default

Alright well, going either forward or in reverse, it is more of a creaking with a few pops here and there. These are at low speeds (less than 10 mph). The sound seems to be worse while turning than going straight, but it is heard either way.

It is coming from the front too

Default somethings binding.......

somethings binding up when its in 4x4. I'm diagnosing this from an explanation of a sound I read about but........here goes....

Could be one of the axles binding up front, one of the CV's ain't rolling smooth so its makin' noise then when you bind it up tight by turning all the way one way you get the most noise.........

I don't know how much you know about axles and such but behind the hub your tire spins on up front is a universal joint kinda like on a driveshaft so when the steering pulls the hub one way the axles can still drive the tire.

I'm guessing everything up front is stock, if so this is what I'd guess.

Not likely but it could be your diff.....jack up the front end so both tires are off the ground when you spin the drivers forward the passenger tire should roll backwards (if you have the stock open diff) If the other tire doesn't spin then your diffs shot and it could be causing the binding, but I would think it was what I mentioned above, not your diff........

Hopefully one of these jeep experts has had the same thing wrong and can tell you all about it.
