Spicer U-joints - Hype or worth the $$?
I guess the title pretty much says it. Has anyone proven that spicer U-joints are significantly stronger or 'better' in any other way than the 'premium' parts store u-joints made by companies like Precision?
Thanks,
Thanks,

all the Spicer U-joints I've run have outlasted any "premium" brand U-joint twice times. Only U-joint I'll run in my axle shafts are the 760x's....

Online they are about $39 ea which is about twice as the parts store brands. But I just called my local driveshaft joint and they quoted me $19 ea. He said there is just the 'regular' spicer, there isn't a premium or brute-force grade and they are non-greasable (strong). So, that's the same price as the parts store brands and 1/2 of the online costs for spicer. It doesn't add up, but I will pick up tomorrow. I've taken driveshafts to those guys before and they seem to know their stuff.

Dont forget to buy your stuff online at advance and then pick up in store. Get discounts! There is a 40% coupon going around now. I think a thread about it on here too.

yeah Spicer is the way to go. I've got a "heavy truck parts" store down the road and the 760's are only 25 bucks so its a no brainer. I've asked a few heavy wheelers and they all sware by them. For the price difference its definitely worth it to get them.
Here is a good place to get them, as well as Spicer ball joints...

I'm currently running Duralast Gold because I bought them as spares and then needed them. I'll let you know if they poop out or not. I'm 2 weeks in and they haven't exploded yet.
I 100% agree that spicer is the way to go. These have a full refund lifetime warranty so I wont lose a penny if they go bad.
Thats right, I recommend wholeheartly Spicer, but use cheapies for spare parts. Sue me.

I replaced my front a rear driveshaft u joints with spicers about 2 years ago. My buddy with the same lift and same size tires had some generic u joints for about 2 months before they crapped out on them. We always go riding together so we've both been on the same trails and through the same holes and put the same amount of stress on both of them. Instead of being perpindicular like a +, the u joint had actually twisted and sheared off the tips where the caps go on to where the caps were touching.

I got my Spicer u-joints today. Curiously they don't say "Made in USA" on them. The box says "Printed in USA" on it and the clips are made in usa. I asked the guy about it and he remarked that "you never know what you'll find in a spicer box these days". But I guess they are still good quality (I hope). He said there aren't "Premium" grade, just one grade of U-joints. When I got back to the office I took one out of the box and one of the caps was loose and there was an extra needle bearing laying on the end. Anyway, I feel a lot better having them in there than some other brands.
